On Wednesday, June 24th, 2026, two strong earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale struck the north-central coastal region of Venezuela, affecting infrastructure, services, and, unfortunately, causing human losses and injuries across several cities such as Caracas, Maracay, Valencia, Barquisimeto, and La Guaira. This is an ongoing situation, and official information continues to be updated as assessment and response efforts progress.

From the Venezuelan community in Hungary (VEHU), we would like to share a message of information and solidarity in light of the difficult situation Venezuela is facing following these earthquakes.

A moment of concern and unity

As a diaspora community, many of us are currently worried, trying to contact family and friends, and processing what is happening from a distance.

At this time, it is essential to stay informed through official and reliable sources and to support one another as a community. Communication among us can be a key tool for emotional support and to help prevent the spread of unverified information.

On the organization of aid

VEHU is in contact with different actors and organizations to understand how support and assistance channels will be structured for Venezuela in this emergency context.

For now, we are awaiting clear and coordinated mechanisms to be defined in order to channel any form of assistance in an effective and responsible manner.

Once these channels are available, we will share the information with the entire community so we can contribute in the best possible way.

In the meantime…

At this initial stage, we encourage everyone to:

  • Stay informed through official and reliable sources

  • Support each other emotionally within the community

  • Avoid spreading unverified information or rumors

  • Remain ready to provide direct and meaningful support when possible

VEHU reiterates its solidarity with all those affected in Venezuela. We remain attentive, united, and committed to contributing wherever needed once proper channels are established.

We will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
