On October 25, the Venezuelan community in Hungary experienced a historic and deeply moving moment with the thanksgiving Mass for the canonization of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández and Mother Carmen Elena Rendiles Martínez, celebrated at the Capuchin Church of Budapest (Budapesti Kapucinus Templom – Árpád-házi Szent Erzsébet Parish).

The celebration was organized by the Spanish-speaking Catholic Mission of Budapest (MCHB) and gathered a full attendance. The entire Spanish-speaking Catholic community joined this Mass with great devotion, united in prayer and gratitude for the first Venezuelan saints. The Eucharist was presided over by Fr. José Daniel Dallos and concelebrated by Mons. José Antonio Rodríguez, secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in Hungary.

A celebration filled with faith, music, and community

The atmosphere was marked by a deep and unmistakably Venezuelan joy. The Mass featured the musical accompaniment of the Coro Los Andes and Ensamble Catatumbo, both groups associated with our Venezuelan Association in Hungary (VEHU). Their repertoire, full of faith and emotion, added a special touch to the celebration.

In his homily, Fr. Dallos reminded everyone that holiness is a universal calling: to live the Gospel in our daily lives—in the home, at work, and in our communities—and to evangelize by example, just as our Venezuelan saints did.

Honoring the life and legacy of our new saints

The Mass was also an opportunity to remember the life and legacy of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, a physician and scientist who dedicated his life to serving the most vulnerable, and Mother Carmen Rendiles, a woman of great spiritual strength and generosity.

The reading of the entrance motion, prepared especially for this celebration, was particularly moving. It beautifully reflected the human and spiritual greatness of our new saints. You can find the full text of the motion at the following link:

A moment of unity for Venezuelans in Budapest

For the Venezuelan diaspora in Hungary, this Mass became a profound encounter with our roots, our faith, and our identity. It reminded us that, even far from home, we continue to walk together as a community.

From VEHU, we proudly celebrate this historic moment and extend our gratitude to MCHB, Coro Los Andes, Ensamble Catatumbo, and all the parishioners who made this day an uplifting celebration of faith, unity, and hope for Venezuela.
